Toxic communication is at an all-time high in our country.

Our AI writing assistant uses natural language processing and deep learning to make writing recommendations to business users, including grammar, style, tone, adherence to key terms and core messages, inclusiveness, and healthy communication. We have been doing a lot of thinking about how organizations can combat toxic communications in the workplace and that got us thinking about the Twittersphere.

We started with our deep learning models that focus on healthy communication, and applied them to a combination of publicly available and internally-labelled data, and then fine-tuned the model on a large dataset of Tweets to make them more used to that style of writing. In our human-labeled data set, we defined “toxic” as aggressive, mean, offensive, racist, sexist or hateful commentary.
