Miami ranks #1 rudest city in the U.S., as articulated by your own residents
Opting to play music aloud rather than through headphones, lack of self-awareness while walking down the center of a grocery store aisle… the list of rude behaviors people experiences while in public is endless.
While certain behaviors in one city may be viewed as typical mannerisms to those who live there, they may be perceived as rude to those visiting. We at Preply, as language learning experts and culture enthusiasts, know how cultural differences can vary from one part of the country to another, but we also know that sometimes rude behavior is simply rude behavior with no ties to culture.
So we set out once again to learn about Americans’ behaviors in the largest cities across the country. Continuing our research from our 2022 study, we surveyed more than a dozen new cities in addition to those polled two years ago.
We asked similar questions including everything from how often residents witness others committing rude acts, how they perceive native residents versus transplants, and more. Using these responses, we created a rudeness score to rank cities from most to least rude.
In addition to this 2024 ranking, we analyzed the differences between the two rankings to determine how behaviors have changed over time. Read on to learn how the city you call home ranks among the rest.
