With “Banging My Head,” The Undercover Dream Lovers embrace chaos as a creative force. The track’s scuzzy production and relentless momentum position the duo firmly within the current wave of indie artists prioritizing emotional honesty over polish, reaffirming their place in the contemporary alternative landscape.

Los Angeles —

The Undercover Dream Lovers Banging My Head marks the duo’s latest release, delivering a scuzzy, fuzz‑soaked track built on emotional overload and raw intensity.

Today, The Undercover Dream Lovers release the fuzzed out new single “banging my head.” Another taste of the upcoming album atomic house (out March 20 via SoundOn), Los Angeles-based musician and producer Matt Koenig allows for a moment of uncurbed rock and roll.

Backed by scorched neon guitar and distorted vocals, Koenig delivers a powerful manifesto on frustration. The song may have been inspired by memories of literal childhood head trauma (“baseball bats and hockey pucks, I think I split my head open three times as a kid”), but the song craves out the universal truth that beating yourself up can feel physical — Stream.

“I was gifted this old red Gibson guitar and it unlocked this intense facet to my writing,” he says. “It was also the first time I’d really screamed in the vocal booth—so much so that I lost my voice for a month. Both the song and the record as a whole are me stepping outside of my creative comfort zone and finding something new, while also working from ideas and feelings that are very familiar.”

atomic house’s 14 songs are built from tactile details and lived-in scenes that don’t just recall the past, but make it feel present again. From his childhood in Pennsylvania to New York DIY spaces to life in contemporary LA, Koenig creates a string of transportive worlds where listeners can become protagonists in psychedelic indie rock wonderlands — Pre-save.
