The rising R&B powerhouse introduces her first full-length album, blending soul, storytelling, and emotional depth

After heavy anticipation, platinum-selling singer-songwriter, musician, and Broadway star Jai’Len Josey has released her debut album, Serial Romantic, out now via Def Jam Recordings. Executive produced by five-time GRAMMY Award-winner Tricky Stewart, Serial Romantic is an intimate yet expansive debut that underscores Jai’Len’s arrival as one of the most compelling new voices in modern R&B. With contributions from The-Dream, Leon Thomas, Theron Thomas, Ben Parris and more, the album blends R&B, soul, cinematic pop, and touches of Detroit ghettotech into a lush, genre-blurring backdrop for Jai’Len’s sharp storytelling and powerhouse vocals. Speaking on the album, Jai’Len shares: “‘Serial Romantic’ is about choosing to love again, despite repeated heartbreak, because loving is in our nature.”
More than a breakup record, Serial Romantic reflects on the relationships, patterns, and hard-earned lessons that ultimately led Jai’Len back to herself. “The inspiration was all the experiences, failed relationships, and tests that ultimately led me back to myself,” she says. “Every lesson, every heartbreak, it all pointed me inward.”
Across Serial Romantic, Jai’Len moves through the highs, illusions, fractures, and aftermath of love with clarity, range, and real personality. The sweeping opener “Hearts & Strings” sets an intimate, cinematic tone, while “Freak” and “Housewife” bring attitude, flirtation, and edge. “New Girl” catches the thrill of something just beginning, “Won’t Force You” lands with quiet resolve, and songs like “Truce,” “Out of My Body,” and the title track trace the messier space between desire and self-preservation. By the album’s close, Serial Romantic becomes what its title resists: not just a record about chasing love, but about returning to yourself.
The album arrives with growing momentum behind Jai’Len, including recent support from SZA, Ebro, and Kehlani, the latter of whom praised the debut after hearing it early as “absolutely incredible” and gave it “10’s across the board.”
An Atlanta-born artist, Jai’Len first honed her craft on Broadway as “Pearl” in The SpongeBob Musical: Live on Stage!, before building a career as both an artist and in-demand songwriter. She sharpened her signature voice across releases including 2020’s Illustrations EP and 2023’s SOUTHERN DELICACY EP, while also contributing to songs for artists including Ari Lennox’s platinum-certified “Pressure”, Rod Wave, Armani White, Xavier Omär, Ben Reilly, and Guapdad 4000.
