Building Momentum is known for heading straight into a disaster zone. The team traveled to the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian and immediately began using their high-tech problem-solving skills (drone technology, 3D printing) to rebuild and organize areas that were destroyed. They travel all over the world training Marines in combat zones.
Building Momentum’s team of engineers and scientists have come up with a plan to build robots that will disinfect communal areas (rooms, offices, buildings). Brad Halsey, the founder & CEO of Building Momentum (also a scientist and U.S. veteran) is leading the charge as his team will endeavor to build this robot prototype within one week with the goal that it can kill germs using UVC light while it moves around on its own.
Next week, beginning Monday, March 16, will start with a two-hour design thinking engagement to hammer out what it will look like and will then move into the building portion for the rest of the week. The City of Alexandria is kicking in a $6K grant to support the project with the ultimate goal of using local businesses to continue the production and distribution of these robots on an ongoing basis.
