Melanie C of the iconic Spice Girls goes behind the scenes of “Sweat,” the lead single from her upcoming solo album of the same name. Filmed at Vevo Studios, Melanie C discusses the creative inspiration behind the video, how the song came together and the workout and dance moves that went into creating it.

During the episode, Melanie C breaks down the high-energy influences that shaped the song, drawing from decades of iconic fitness and dance-culture moments — from Flashdance to Eric Prydz’s “Call On Me.” She explains how Diana Ross’s “Work That Body” kept looping in her head and played a major role in the song’s creation, alongside inspiration from an Arnold Schwarzenegger album from the ’80s known for over-the-top workout routines.

She also discusses the nostalgia and humor in the video, including scenes of her riding a spin bike in heels and playful nods to longtime Spice Girls fans bringing in “Spice Boys” to join the workouts. Melanie C shares her love of working out and sweating on the dance floor comparing that energy to the thrill of being behind the DJ decks in a room full of people. She wraps the episode with her Flashdance moment in the video saying, “What girl who grew up in the ’80s doesn’t want to have that moment?”

0:07 – Shooting the video for Sweat was so much fun, I took all the Flashdance moments, even Eric Prydz “Call on Me,” we wanted the iconic sporting music moments throughout the last few decades.

0:40 – Diana Ross’ “Work that Body” kept going around in my head and I thought it would be so cool in a new song if I could get that into a tune.

0:57 – We were also listening to Arnold Schwarzenegger, he created an album in the 80’s with loads of classic tunes with workouts over the top. We threw it all together and “Sweat” was born.

1:30 – I’m on a spin bike in heels and I have my little Spice Boys which are for the fans. We’ve got a red head, a blonde and they all have little speedos on if you haven’t seen the video it’s worth it for that alone.

2:11 – I love working out, but you can not beat working up a sweat on the dance floor. I love to be behind the decks but behind the decks or in front, I’m happy to be sweating in a room full of people having the same experience.

2:52 – I really love my Flashdance moment in the video – what girl that grew up in the 80’s doesn’t want to have that moment.
