The artist’s first solo performance following the BTS hiatus marked a historic event for K-Pop, with J-Hope becoming the first South Korean to headline a major US music festival.

Lollapalooza 2022 drove an impressive 3.4M conversations, 4.4x more than last year, according to a new analysis conducted by Maven Road. The majority of discussions revolved around J-Hope; over 2.4M occurred on the day of his performance and were mostly driven by fans sharing their excitement on Twitter.

This significant moment for K-Pop also included Tomorrow x Together, the first boy band of the genre to perform at the iconic festival, whose performance generated 517.7K mentions across platforms.

Fans have become increasingly enthusiastic about their support for K-Pop at the music festival. Prior to 2022’s record-breaking conversations, 2018 previously had the greatest amount of social buzz, which was primarily driven by discussions about the collaboration between former K-Pop artist Lay and DJ Alan Walker.

K-Pop also seems to be a trending topic among conversations about other US festivals. During this year’s Coachella, the Korean group 2NE1 and the famous female group AESPA accounted for 15.9% of discussions about the event.
