cinéSPEAK Brings Bone-Chilling Entertainment To Philadelphia This Halloween

cinéSPEAK is hosting a number of exciting events throughout this year’s much anticipated Halloween weekend. From Friday, October 28 to Monday, October 31, cinéSPEAK brings action-packed programming, special guests, and an all-ages Halloween party to West Philadelphia.

cinéSPEAK starts off Halloweekend on Friday, October 28 at 7 p.m. at the Pentridge Station Pop-Up with the unique feature Teine Sā, a contemporary horror series based on supernatural legends from across the Pacific Islands. The short film OURIKA! will proceed and following both films will be a Q&A session with Xenia Matthews, director of “OURIKA!”, and the hosts of the media literacy show Ghouls Next Door.

On Saturday, October 29 at 5 p.m., cinéSPEAK invites crowds of all ages to dress up in costumes and join them for a family-friendly movie night and community party at Pentridge Station Pop-Up. The event will feature Henry Selick’s award-winning stop-motion fantasy horror film Coraline. Guests can participate in a spooky story time & costume contest with special guest Icon Ebony Fierce. DJ MARIAHGEEZ will also be there spinning tunes.

Finally, at 7 p.m. on Halloween Night, cinéSPEAK presents Bill Gunn’s revolutionary independent horror film Ganja and Hess at Bartram’s Garden with a special appearance from the film’s award-winning composer Sam L. Waymon. In addition to being a successful singer, pianist and Broadway composer, Waymon is the brother and former musical director of the legendary Nina Simone. Musician and artist, Khari Lucas aka Contour who recently released a new album titled Onwards! will be the opening musical act at 6 p.m. There will also be a panel featuring Sam Waymon and Contour with John Morrison moderating to explore the craft of composing for film and much more. cinéSPEAK will also be donating 25 percent of all ticket sales to Prevention Point Philadelphia.

To celebrate the holiday early, cinéSPEAK is showing the thriller film, SALOUM by Jean Luc Herbulot at The Rotunda on October 20. The film follows a trio of mercenaries that become embroiled with malevolent supernatural forces in this genre-defying Senegalese thriller.
