Grupo Aeroméxico published its 2023 Sustainability Report, which reveals its strategy and outstanding achievements in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) matters. It also outlines the path with which it wishes to take the lead in Latin America to accelerate the transition to more sustainable aviation.

Mexico’s global airline defined a new purpose last year: To elevate the journey to an extraordinary experience, taking care of us and our world. To fulfill this commitment, the company implemented its Sustainability strategy based on three pillars: WORLD, PEOPLE, and EXTRAORDINARY BUSINESS.

Through the World pillar, the airline seeks to mitigate climate change and carry out actions to counteract global warming. Its most significant investment, which has been historic in its nearly nine decades of existence, is in fleet renewal, followed by initiatives with technology and processes of operational excellence and efficiency. During 2023, Aeromexico contributed to avoiding the generation of more than 1.3 million tons of CO2.

The company also designed a decarbonization pathway to reach net zero emissions by 2050, visualizing that depends 63% on the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), 21% on fleet renewal, and the rest on the implementation of operational initiatives.

The People pillar includes strengthening its social commitment and promoting a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion both among customers and employees. During 2023, the company made social contributions of 13.3 million pesos, transferred 191 human organs for transplant, more than 400 volunteers participated in its volunteer days, women held 40% of its management positions, and implemented more than 15 campaigns focused on diversity and inclusion. The company also continued to reinforce its robust human trafficking prevention program, with which it continues to contribute to saving the lives of victims who intend to be transported by air.

For Extraordinary Business, Aeromexico continues to follow best practices that promote transparency and management of environmental, social, and corporate governance indicators to meet the requests of strategic partners, investors, and employees.

During the last year, AeroMexico employees and strategic partners completed more than 18,000 certifications under the Compliance Program, obtained ISO 27001:2022 for e-commerce processes and flight operations, and became the first airline in Mexico to have the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) V.4 distinction for the e-commerce sales channel.

CEO Andres Conesa remarks in the Report that in terms of sustainability, the company is committing to leading Latin America in the transition to sustainable aviation. It translates into a strategy guided by the pillars of World, People, and Extraordinary Business, and it will allow them to fulfill their vision of remaining the number one choice of travelers, offering the best personalized and consistent travel experience with a spirit of warmth and service.
