Cellist, composer, curator, and speaker Joshua Roman announced today his next tour of the Immunity project, taking place from December 3-17, 2025. Roman will visit six cities on the East Coast and Midwest of the United States, sharing his deeply personal experience with Long COVID and the music that helped him find a way back to the stage. Performances are free and open to the public, with a focus on gathering individuals living with Long COVID and other chronic illnesses. In addition to the performances, the tour will include advocacy, education, and community-building engagements made possible with assistance and support from local partners.

“The response to Immunity and its message of the value of vulnerability in human connection has been powerful and shaped many of the decisions I am making about the future of my career. I am excited to share this message of solidarity and to connect with other people living with Long COVID and their caregivers in a meaningful way, while spreading joy and awareness,” shared Roman.

Roman released Immunity, his debut solo album, in October 2024 on the Bright Shiny Things label. The project explores his life-altering experience of Long COVID, confronting the impact of the illness and the limitations that nearly ended his career, progressing through a period of doubt and struggle. Through this journey, Roman ultimately found a renewed understanding of the strength that lies in vulnerability.

In December 2025, Roman will bring Immunity to intimate spaces in Boston, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and New York City. These performances are intended to increase awareness and understanding of Long COVID, while sharing music and community in a safe space. The program will feature compositions by J.S. Bach, Allison Loggins-Hull, George Crumb, Caroline Shaw, Leonard Cohen, and two of Roman’s own compositions—each representing a moment or lesson that shaped his experience. The works are woven into a narrative of the most important moments over the last few years, as Roman has navigated the challenges of chronic illness.

Building upon his ongoing advocacy and educational work, Roman will lead a multi-day residency in Boston that coincides with the Immunity tour performance. The residency will include learning sessions with students and community members, private performances, and a concerto performance with the Longwood Symphony Orchestra—an ensemble of healthcare professionals in the Boston medical community.

In each city of this tour, a diverse coalition of local partners will activate networks and resources to engage Long COVID and chronic illness patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, health and wellness advocates, and other groups fostering healing and resilience. Roman will also meet with clinicians and researchers who are delivering the care that helped him and developing treatments urgently needed by the more than 17 million Americans facing Long COVID.

About Joshua Roman

Joshua Roman is a cello soloist and composer, hailed for his “effortlessly expressive tone… and playful zest for exploration” (The New York Times), as well as his “extraordinary technical and musical gifts” and “blend of precision and almost improvisatory freedom… that goes straight to the heart” (The San Francisco Chronicle). His genre-bending programs and wide-ranging collaborations have grown out of an “enthusiasm for musical evolution that is as contagious as his love for the classics” (The Seattle Times).

Roman released the ambitious and deeply personal Immunity in October 2024 on Bright Shiny Things. The album—his first as a solo artist—is an intimate musical exploration of Roman’s life-altering experience of Long COVID, with music ranging from J.S. Bach to George Crumb to Caroline Shaw, as well as Roman’s own compositions. Since the album’s release, he has continued raising awareness of the condition and the importance of finding strength in vulnerability through performances and speaking engagements in the U.S. and abroad. These engagements have included residencies at Stanford University and Yale University; participation in the Aspen Ideas Festival and the Oslo Freedom Forum; and well-being concerts at Carnegie Hall. Roman is set to launch a second musical project in spring 2026, building on the success and impact of Immunity.

Roman’s 2025-26 season features the continuation of his Immunity project, both on tour and with Long COVID clinics throughout the East Coast in December 2025; as well as ongoing trio performances with violinist Tessa Lark and double bassist Edgar Meyer in festivals and recital halls across the U.S. Additional highlights of the 2025-26 season include concerto appearances with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, New York Youth Symphony, Heartland Festival Orchestra, South Bend Symphony Orchestra, and Bellingham Symphony Orchestra.
