Versatile mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey is joined by jazz pianist Baptiste Trotignon for a program titled Thousands of Miles. A survey of Kurt Weill’s works—both from his European years and after his forceable relocation to the United States—gets extra emphasis on its jazz stylings, courtesy of Trotignon’s arrangements and improvisations and Lindsey’s delivery that “has shades of Dietrich herself (London’s The Times). The concert also features selections by Weill’s fellow émigreés Korngold, Alma Mahler, and Zemlinsky.

PITTSBURGH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra returns for the first time in more than 10 years under the direction of Music Director Manfred Honeck. Their concert includes the New York premiere of Lera Auerbach’s Frozen Dreams, Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with pianist Seong-Jin Cho; and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, for which the PSO earned the Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance in 2018.

This concert will be heard by listeners around the world as part of the Carnegie Hall Live broadcast and digital series. Produced by WQXR and Carnegie Hall, and co-hosted by WQXR’s Jeff Spurgeon and WNYC’s John Schaefer, the concert will be broadcast on WQXR 105.9 FM in New York and streamed online at wqxr.org and carnegiehall.org/wqxr.

GIDON KREMER: A TRIBUTE TO ARVO PÄRT

Violinist Gidon Kremer—a longtime proponent of music by Arvo Pärt, holder of Carnegie Hall’s Debs Composer’s Chair this season—is joined by cellist Giedrė Dirvanauskaitė and pianist Georgijs Osokins in a program paying tribute to the composer in his 90th year. Program selections include Pärt’s Für Alina; Fratres; Mozart-Adagio, Kancheli’s Middelheim, and Rachmaninoff’s Trio élégiaque.

Austrian bass Günther Groissböck, one of the world’s leading opera and lied singers, is joined by pianist Julius Drake for a matinee recital that includes selected works—including some rarities–by nineteenth-century masters of song, including Robert Schumann, Rott, Bruckner, Wolf, Richard Strauss, and Gustav Mahler.

Grammy and Emmy Award-nominated Cheyenne Jackson (Xanadu, Into the Woods, American Horror Story, 30 Rock) takes the stage for an unforgettable evening of jaw-dropping vocals and heartfelt humor. Audience members will enjoy a one-of-a-kind concert that features Broadway hits, pop anthems, timeless American Songbook classics, seasonal surprises, and more. The concert is directed by Warren Carlyle, music director Paul Staroba, and features guest artists, including Tony Award winner Jane Krakowski (30 Rock, Oh, Mary!) and Jessica Vosk (Wicked, Hell’s Kitchen).

The Balourdet Quartet—recipient of Chamber Music America’s 2024 Cleveland Quartet Award—offers a recital program to include music by Brahms, Bartók, and Ravel.

CHAMBER ORCHESTRA OF EUROPE

The Chamber Orchestra of Europe returns to Carnegie Hall after more than 20 years. Led by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the orchestra performs an all-Brahms program to include the Tragic Overture; Double Concerto with violinist Veronika Eberle and cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras, and the Symphony No. 1. This concert marks the first chapter of a four-year project at Carnegie Hall, during which this esteemed ensemble will perform all of Brahms’s symphonies and concertos.

BENJAMIN GROSVENOR, Piano

Pianist Benjamin Grosvenor is acclaimed for his performances of music by Chopin and Ravel. In this program, he performs major works by both composers, including Ravel’s virtuosic Gaspard de la nuit and Chopin’s Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat Minor alongside Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition in its original solo-piano format.

Acclaimed pianist Daniil Trifonov returns with a solo recital featuring extraordinary-yet-underperformed musical gems, including Taneyev’s Prelude and Fugue; Myaskovsky’s Piano Sonata No. 2; and Prokofiev’s Visions fugitives. The program is completed with Robert Schumann’s turbulent and tender Piano Sonata No. 1. Please note: the previously announced works by Brahms, Schumann, and Handel are no longer on the program.

Perspectives artist violinist Maxim Vengerov assembles an all-star lineup of musical collaborators—violinist Vilde Frang, violist James Ehnes, cellist Daniel Müller-Schott, pianist Yefim Bronfman, and clarinetist Anthony McGill—to perform Brahms’s piano and clarinet quintets at The Annual Isaac Stern Memorial Concert.

A beloved holiday tradition continues as the New York String Orchestra returns for its annual concerts conducted by Jaime Laredo On Christmas Eve, the orchestra presents an all-Mozart program to include the overture to The Marriage of Figaro, Piano Concerto No. 27 in B-flat Major, K. 595 with Anna Polonsky, and Symphony No. 40. The orchestra’s second concert includes Elgar’s Introduction and Allegro, Op. 47 with the Isidore String Quartet; Dvořák’s Violin Concerto with Bella Hristova; and Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4, “Italian.”
