The Inspire America Foundation and the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora are grateful for the extraordinary reception of their proposal to nominate the Venezuelan opposition leader, María Corina Machado, for the Nobel Peace Prize
Since the launch of the initiative on August 16 at the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora, a dozen public figures who are qualified to submit nominations for the Nobel Prize have presented their commitment to nominate Machado, in recognition for almost 30 years of fighting an unwavering battle to restore democratic freedoms in Venezuela. Against all odds and obstacles and including the persecution, beatings and imprisonment of her team and numerous killings of her supporters, she has led a popular movement that defeated the authoritarian regime of Nicolas Maduro in the presidential elections last July.
“There is no person in the world today who has more merit for this award than Maria Corina Machado, who has maintained a successful civic opposition in the face of physical intimidation, torture, imprisonment against members of her team and her followers who are the overwhelming majority of the Venezuelan people. It is an honor that Senator Scott announces his support for this process from our Museum and has led the effort in the US Congress. Soon, we will be adding more names in support of his nomination.”
Signers of the petition include the presidents of Florida International University, Miami Dade College, St Thomas University and Barry University and now a group of legislators led by Senators Rick Scott, Marco Rubio and Representatives Carlos Gimenez, Maria Elvira Salazar, Mario Diaz Balart, Byron Donalds, Neal Walz and Michael Dunn.

La Fundación Inspira América y el Museo de la Diáspora agradecen la extraordinaria acogida que ha recibido su propuesta de nominar a la líder de la oposición venezolana, María Corina Machado, para el Premio Nóbel de la Paz.
Desde el lanzamiento de la iniciativa el 16 de agosto en un acto celebrado en Museo Americano de la Diáspora Cubana, una docena de figuras públicas que califican como nominadores al Premio Nobel han dado su firma en firme reclamo de reconocimiento a Machado, quien desde hace casi 30 años lleva una inclaudicable batalla para restituir las libertades democráticas en Venezuela. En total desventaja frente al régimen autoritario de Nicolás Maduro, Machado ha sufrido persecución, golpizas y prisión, al frente de un movimiento popular que ahora mismo trata de hacer valer los resultados obtenidos en las elecciones presidenciales del pasado mes de julio.
Segun Felipe: “No existe una persona en el mundo hoy que reuna mas meritos para este premio que Maria Corina Machado, quien ha mantenido una oposición civica triunfadora frente a la intimidación física, torturas, cárcel y trampas contra los integrantes de su equipo y sus seguidores que son la abrumadora mayoría del pueblo venezolano. Es un honor que el Senador Rick Scott anuncie su apoyo a este proceso desde nuestro Museo. Próximamente, estaremos sumando más nombres en apoyo a su nominación.”

El Premio Nóbel de la Paz ha distinguido a lo largo de los años la labor de personas, gobiernos e instituciones que han hecho un significativo aporte al respeto de los derechos humanos, el desarrollo de la convivencia entre las naciones y el afianzamiento de las libertades políticas.
