Relationships are being put to the test more than ever right now. There’s nowhere to go and nothing to do aside from watching TV. And even that can mean a flashpoint for many, providing yet another reason to row – over exactly what to watch together.
A recent YouGov survey* of 2,000 consumers for creative agency Ralph revealed that over the course of the lockdown, 1 in 3 British couples have been watching more movies together than before. And, with 1 in 10 couples spending more than 15 minutes endlessly scrolling through movie options before deciding what to watch, it’s not surprising that 30% have had arguments about finding a movie to watch.
The drama is over. With just a few clicks, Movie Matcher filters what you both want to watch before using
a clever algorithm to suggest a movie you’ll both enjoy.
How it works
You can play with a mate or with a famous movie character. Simply answer a few questions about your likes and dislikes and your requirements will be matched with those of your mate, giving you a few spot-on movie recommendations.
The tech
The algorithm, created by Ralph, cleverly uses IMDB data to surface more obscure films that perhaps you haven’t seen. It prioritises subgenres and keywords over genres to make sure that the final results have a high rating – so you know it won’t throw up any duds.
*All figures, unless otherwise stated, are from YouGov Plc. Total sample size was 2084 adults. Fieldwork was undertaken between 4th – 5th February 2021. The survey was carried out online. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all GB adults (aged 18+).
