Lupita Infante Honors Loved Ones Lost With Emotional New Single

2x GRAMMY® and 2x Latin GRAMMY® nominee Lupita Infante releases her heartfelt new single, “Prenderte Una Vela,” a touching tribute to those who are no longer with us. Fittingly arriving on Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), the song captures the spirit of remembrance and connection that defines the beloved Mexican tradition.

“Prenderte Una Vela (‘Light a Candle for You’)” was born during a Spotify songwriting camp for Música Mexicana held in Los Angeles in October 2023, the same camp that produced her Latin GRAMMY®-nominated track “Seguimos o No.” Written alongside Alan Vega and Agüita Tinta, the song is a sentimental cumbia about losing someone dear, someone who may be physically gone but remains alive in the heart and memory.

“It’s a song for anyone who has lost someone and continues to remember and honor that person through the years,” shares Infante. “That person will always stay with you, in your mind and in your heart. That’s what “Prenderte Una Vela” is about.”

The single’s cover art holds deep personal meaning for Lupita. As the granddaughter of Mexican icon Pedro Infante and the daughter of Pedro Infante Jr., both of whom passed away, she infuses her family’s memory and legacy into every detail. The cover art features a small box engraved with initials, representing a sacred space where cherished memories are kept, surrounded by glowing candles symbolizing eternal light and guidance.

Rooted in Mexican tradition, “Prenderte Una Vela” honors the rituals of October and November, when families light candles and welcome the spirits of loved ones back home. “The candles are the light that guides them back to us,” Infante adds.

Continuing a standout year, Lupita Infante has also been nominated for “Best Regional Song” at the 26th Annual Latin GRAMMY® Awards, distinguishing herself as the only female artist in the category. This marks her second Latin GRAMMY® nomination, following her 2020 nod for “Dejaré”, and reaffirms her place as one of the most powerful and promising voices in Regional Mexican music today.

The Latin GRAMMY®-nominated track “¿Seguimos o No?” appears on her third studio album, “La Corona es Mía”, released earlier this year. The 10-track project blends her traditional roots with a modern pop sensibility, showcasing Lupita’s artistry, elegance, and emotional depth.
